Salford is about 250 miles north west of London. With excellent road and public transport links to all parts of the UK, the city is well placed as a visitor and commercial centre. And Manchester International Airport, gateway to over 200 international destinations, is just a few miles away too. The City of Salford covers 37 square miles and the five districts of Salford, Eccles, Worsley, Irlam & Cadishead, and Swinton & Pendlebury. Some 220,000 people are proud to call Salford their home! The Blackfriars, Broughton and Ordsall districts of central Salford are just one minutes' walk from the heart of Manchester's shopping and central business districts - just across the River Irwell which snakes between the two cities.Salford's proximity to Manchester city centre makes it an integral part of the economic and cultural powerhouse that is driving England's north west forward. Salford and Manchester enjoy a unique situation: their connection creates a wealth of opportunities ranging from the potential for business relocation and development to establishing Salford's waterways and watersides as key regional and national visitor attractions and turning the city into a residential area of choice within Greater Manchester.

Association

The origins of schools football in Salford date back to 1913 when the Salford Schools sports Association was formed, with soccer under its umbrella. Only the war years have intervened and we actually were the first winners of the trophy in 1947 when schools football recommenced after the war. It was in the 1970's that, due to government boundary changes, the old 'inner city' Salford became part of the wider City of Salford and the C.S.S.F.A. took shape.

Apart from our successes locally and nationally, we are renowned 'travellers' - our under 15's squad has almost an unbroken
sequence over the last 10 years of participating in a Soccer tour-nament in San Diego, California. This is always a tremendous experience for the boys.

At one stage, we played Belfast Boys on an annual basis (alternating the venue) for the Sir Matt Busby Trophy. We have travelled to Ireland on several occasions to play Dublin and other town teams and they have come to us. In 2001, at Easter, our under 15's boys went on a truly ground-breaking visit to South Africa, playing local township teams and visiting several Schools. In spite of these 'higher-profile' occasions, we are constantly aware of the grass roots football being played within the authority over which we have responsibility.
